Victims of lightning ripped the 35th in Cambodia

Phnom Penh (ANTARA News / Xinhua-Oana) - Lightning claimed one victim soul again on Thursday, with the death of farmer named Lim Khen - 48 years old - in Komphong Thom province, local media reported quoting a local official statement, Saturday.

According to the National Committee for Disaster Management, Khen is the 35th victim who reportedly died from lightning strikes during the year. In 2009, lightning killed 140 people in Southeast Asian countries.

Khen was killed as he walked home from his rice field, said Police Chief Matt Moly as quoted by the Cambodia Daily.

"When he saw the rain, he left his rice field, where he was planting seeds. But he was lucky and back were burned, while his neck was broken by lightning strikes," said Moly.

During the brunt of typhoon separately, which struck the Kandal Province on Wednesday, a bolt of lightning killed five cows and harsh winds and rain resulted in 15 villagers injured when the wind blows that hard damaging 16 houses on stilts and tear down the roof of another house in the village nine Chey Thom and Vihear Suor , said the governor was quoted as saying Sophan Khong.

"Fortunately, the villagers were not at the house," said Sophan. "If they were in the house, they probably already dead," he said.
