Broadband Connection Finnish citizen So Right

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Finland becomes the first country in the world to establish a broadband connection (broadband networks) as a right that applies to every citizen. Starting July 1, 2010, every Finnish person would have the right to access broadband Internet connection with speed of 1 Mbps (megabits per second).

Not enough to just that. Finland also promised to provide the Internet connection speed for each person up to 100 Mbps in 2015.

Starting July 1, all telecommunication companies in Finland must be able to provide a broadband network to the entire population with a minimum speed of 1 Mbps.

"We see the role of the Internet for the Finnish people in their daily lives. Internet Service now is not only for entertainment," said Finnish Minister of Communications Suvi Linden explains his thinking behind this rule.

He said that Finland has worked hard to build an information society and in two years ago we realized that not all people have access. Approximately 96 percent of the population in Finland is already connected to the Internet.

A poll showed earlier this year found that nearly four of five people around the world to believe that Internet access is a fundamental right (basic).
