A volcano in southern Eyjafallajoekull, Iceland, erupted. Local government to evacuate more than 500 people living residents near the volcano.
"We estimate that no one was in danger in the area. But we've started to evacuate the 500 and 600 local residents," said Spokesman Civil Protection Department of Iceland, Udmundsson.
It is quoted by news.com.au, Monday (22/3/2010).
The explosion took place at midnight. In addition to evacuation, the main roads into the mountain area is covered by the local authorities.
Last time, the volcano at this Eyjafjallajökull the glacier region erupted in 1821 and 1823.
