10 Killed, One Missing Due to Gas Explosion in North China Mine
Yuxian, Shanxi (ANTARA News / Xinhua-Oana) - At least 10 people were confirmed dead and one missing after a gas explosion at a coal mine, Tuesday, in Shanxi Province, north China, said a spokesman for the department of work safety, Wednesday.
The accident happened at about 4:50 p.m., Tuesday, when 41 miners were working in the mines of West Stone Industry Co. Chentong., Ltd.., In Yuxian County.
As many as 27 people survived the accident without injuries and 14 people trapped underground, said Liu Xianyun, from Yangquan City safety committee, which oversees Yuxian County.
Three people were trapped have been rescued, while another 10 people confirmed dead and one missing person, said Liu at a briefing.
The company was registered with an annual production capacity of 600,000 tons.
Rescue efforts continue, and safety department is investigating the cause of the accident.
