Japan Seoul Supports Security Council To Take N Korea
Tokyo (ANTARA News / Reuters) - Japan will support South Korea's decision to bring Pyongyang to the UN Security Council because of the sinking of the battleship South Korea.
"I'm not sure to take the lead, but I think we need to give strong support (to South Korea)," said Chief Cabinet Secretary Hirofumi Hirano told reporters after South Korean President Lee Myung-bak said Seoul would take North Korea's UN decision-making body.
"Certainly, preconditions are closer cooperation between Japan, U.S. and South Korea," added Hirano.
"And if it is fulfilled, we would like to take part to get China's attention so that they recognize in the same situation, if given the chance."
Last week, South Korea has accused North Korea fired a torpedo into one when the war, increase the tension region and to test China's position in the international arena, the sole supporter of Pyongyang.
North Korea denies the allegations.
Japanese Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama said Japan should be in the forefront when Seoul's demands to the UN Security Council resolution against North Korea.
