British PM Afghanistan Visit
Liputan6.com, Kabul: British Prime Minister David Cameron made his first official visit to Afghanistan on Thursday (10 / 6). In his first visit, he was scheduled to attend a joint press conference with Afghan President Hamid Karzai, which was broadcast live on national television.
In a statement, Mr Cameron did not mention security issues, but says that Afghanistan is one of the most important country in foreign policy in the UK. He also promised to help the people of Afghanistan. Local television reported.
England has about 9500 troops in Afghanistan, most based in the south. That way, English is the second largest contributor to the mission led by the North Atlantic Treaty Organization or NATO, after the United States. As for as many as 294 British personnel have died in Afghanistan, since the operation to overthrow the Taliban government in October 2001. (AST / ANS / AFP)
