Flush Flood Kills 16 People in Romania

Bucharest (ANTARA News / Xinhua-Oana) - Ten people were killed and three others missing in northeastern Romania after heavy rains that caused flash floods in Botosani and Suceava, officials said Tuesday.

According to the state's Emergency Response Department, the bodies of five victims of Dorohoi and Botosani districts have been found on Tuesday morning at their homes that were hit by flash floods after a river overflowed nearby.

Another man from a village in the district the same Ibanesti brought floods swept away while trying to save the pet animal.

Meanwhile, some 2,000 people were evacuated due to flooding.

Local authorities are relocating flood victims to buildings and school sports.

Floods also destroyed dozens of houses in total and hundreds more houses partially damaged.

A number of highways that connect cities and towns in the area was closed due to flooding.

Heavy rains and overflow of the river will still be threatened in the northern region of the eastern European countries, as well as the central part of Romania is also not free from flooding until Wednesday, officials said.

The death toll from flooding in the country reached 16 people.
