Iranian President Visits Afghanistan Pause
Kabul, 8 / 3 (ANTARA News / Xinhua-OANA) - Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has delayed his visit to Afghanistan which was originally held on this day, Monday (8 / 3), said an Afghan official.
Iranian president likely to visit neighboring countries on Wednesday (10 / 3), the official said.
During the visit, President Ahmadinejad is scheduled to meet with counterpart, President of Afghanistan Hamid Karzai.
This is Ahmadinejad's first visit to Afghanistan since he was re-elected in general elections in June last year.
The visit was aimed at strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries and discuss a way out of the crisis that hit the Central Asian countries.
Tehran has repeatedly urged the withdrawal of all foreign troops led the United States from Afghanistan.
According to Tehran, the placement of foreign troops will further trigger a fierce Taliban resistance and lead to instability of the country.
On the other hand, U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates made a surprise visit to Afghanistan on Monday.
