At a press conference in Beijing recently, Vice Minister of Water Resources of China Liu Ning said rainfall in the region was only half the usual.
"Even in some areas rainfall is only about 10 percent," said Liu Ning.
Liu added that residents who lack drinking water mostly live in mountainous areas. "The Chinese government has sent more than 7,000 trucks to water-deficient areas. The government also deployed troops to dig more than 18,000 wells," he said.
