Russia Discuss Iran With Sanctions Partners
WASHINGTON (AFP / RIA-Novosti Oana) - Russian President, Dmitry Medvedev, says Russia is now discussing sanctions against Iran with its partners.
United States and other Western countries accuse Iran of developing nuclear weapons, under the guise of a nuclear energy program for peaceful purposes, and to seek new sanctions after Iran did 20 percent of its uranium enrichment.
"We are discussing the sanctions issue with our partners," said the Russian leader, in the office of United States experts, after attending the Summit (Summit) Nuclear Safety in Washington.
Russia has consistently said that the dispute should be resolved through diplomatic means, but also increase their willingness to consider the statement of the sanctions.
"Now the need to introduce sanctions against Iran are a lot of talk about it.
"The reasons for such proposals is clear: because Iran is still not reacted to give a constructive compromise on the proposals submitted," said Medvedev.
He added that the sanctions should ensure nuclear non-proliferation rather than to punish the Iranian people.
Medvedev said last week that Iran's hard stance will force the United Nations Security Council (UN) to review the issuance of sanctions.
