Yerevan (AFP / Reuters) - Armenian ruling coalition Thursday said it decided to freeze the ratification in parliament about the agreements with Turkey aimed at restoring relations between the two countries.
Armenia and Turkey signed an agreement-perjabjian October last year aimed at addressing the problem of mass murder of Armenians by Ottoman Turks in World War I, but the atmosphere heats up in recent months, adding to doubts about whether the treaty would be ratified.
"Given Turkey's rejection of parties eligible to ratify the treaty without the prerequisites in a reasonable time, make it kelanjutkan ratification process in national parliaments does not mean, we deem it necessary to suspend this process," said a statement.
Under the agreements, Armenia and Turkey agreed to establish relations and open borders dilpomatik both countries within two months after parliament persetujan.
The proposals were facing resistance from allies of Turkey, Azerbaijan, which wants to see the progress concerning the rebel territory of Nagorno-Karabakh.
In Ankara, a foreign ministry official said Turkey did not receive formal information about pending ratification of the treaties.
