Hampton, KOMPAS.com - U.S. President, Barack Obama, Sunday (05/09), calling the German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, for the second time in three days in order to emphasize the European Union's firm steps in building market confidence.

"President Barack Obama talks with Chancellor Merkel this morning as part of its continuing involvement in the economic situation there," said deputy White House spokesman, Bill Burton.

In addition to Merkel, on the same day Obama also conduct a telephone conversation with French President Nicolas Sarkozy. Sarkozy's office said the two leaders agreed to establish a clear reaction to the turmoil in the market.

Obama called Merkel Merkel to respond to a phone that can not be received earlier, after arriving at Hampton University, Virginia where he gave a speech. The conversation between Obama and Merkel and Sarkozy has happened in the middle of the 27th meeting of EU Finance Ministers in Brussels in order to create protective measures for the euro currency, hours before the deadlines set by European leaders before Asian stock markets reopened.

Obama and Merkel last communicated Friday, amid U.S. concerns that the debt crisis that erupted in Greece can be crippling Europe and triggered the stock market turmoil on Wall Street and the U.S. economy.
