President of Brazil Accept UN Award

Brasilia, KOMPAS.com - Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva is scheduled next week will receive the award "Hero of the Eradication of Hunger" from the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), local media reported on Friday (05/07/2010).

President Lula said the UN was chosen because it prioritizes the eradication program during two periods of starvation in his leadership.

Awards will be handed over to President Lula by the Executive Director of WFP, Josette Sheeran, will visit government projects in the eradication of hunger, called the project "Fome Zero" (Zero Hunger) city Brasilia and other cities.

Sheeran praised the active role played by the government of President Lula's efforts in anti-hunger in Brazil and other countries.

He made special statement regarding interesting projects, which provide high quality food for school children, which attracts them to diligently go to school.

In late April, Lula was elected by U.S. weekly magazine, Time one of the most influential leaders in the world.

At the end of last year, Lula was also chosen by the French newspaper, Le Monde, and the Spanish newspaper, El Pais, as Person of the Year in 2009 for her role in leadership in the Latin American region.
