Economic Growth Slows Gorontalo First Quarter 2010
Gorontalo (AFP) - Gorontalo economic development in First Quarter (January to March) in 2010 is estimated to grow 7.43 percent, slower than the growth in the first quarter of 2009 which recorded 7.76 percent.
Deputy leader of Bank Indonesia (BI) Gorontalo, Dudung C Setyadi, in Gorontalo, Saturday, explaining, weak regional economy is the impact of the declining performance of the agricultural sector as the dominant sector in Gorontalo.
"Planting Area in the period September to November 2009 decreased due to long dry season. It makes agricultural production in January and February 2010 dropped down," he said.
Nevertheless, the signs of increasing agricultural production is estimated to begin to happen at the end of March 2010. But cumulatively, the amount of production generated during the first quarter of 2010 was still under agricultural production in the first quarter of 2009.
In terms of demand, Gorontalo economic slowdown was reflected in the consumption and export performance.
Weakening of Trade (FTT) and the decrease of agricultural production in the early quarter I-2010 provides a significant impact on consumer spending and decline in the performance of overseas exports of Gorontalo.
The percentage of slower consumption growth was also demonstrated by the community that grew 9.99 percent, slowing when compared with the quarter I-2009 which reached 11.66 percent.
"Delayed at least reflected by the decline in the realization of consumer credit, the declining value of the farmer, the realization of personnel expenditure stagnation, and declining levels of consumption of household fuel oil," he said.
