Two blast occurred in Kabul Jirga Starts At Meeting
Kabul (ANTARA News / Xinhua-Oana) - Two explosions occurred in the Afghan capital, Kabul, when President Hamid Karzai opened the jirga meeting, Wednesday.
Jirga, Institutions, or assemblies, the National Consultation for Peace in Afghanistan aimed at ending the ongoing conflict and ensure a lasting peace in countries that undermined the fight.
A total of 1,600 people including tribal chiefs, parliamentarians, political leaders and community and government officials gathered in a giant tent to discuss various ways to improve the reconciliation process initiated by the government with Taliban insurgents and ensure a lasting peace in the country.
A foreign cameraman said at least one rocket landed near the Intercontinental Hotel, not far from the giant tent that was given Air Conditioning, where a three-day meeting held Jirga.
Meanwhile, Karzai, in his opening address Jirga, called on all armed opposition groups to stop their violence and join the peace process.
Karzai stopped his speech, and told the participants of the meeting, "Someone probably was trying to rocket. Do not worry about it, let's continue."
In his speech, Karzai condemned the Taliban - who launched an insurgency against the Karzai government and not invited to the meeting of Jirga.
