Explosion in Afghanistan Kills Pakistanis
Kandahar, Afghanistan (AFP / Reuters) - A roadside bomb killed a Pakistani construction worker and injuring six colleagues, near the Pakistan consulate in the city of Kandahar, southern Afghanistan, police said.
The bomb hit the vehicle carrying a group of workers on a highway near the Pakistan consulate in the eastern part of town and came after a series of Saturday night attacks by Taliban insurgents that killed 31 people in several parts of the city of Kandahar. Russian news agency RIA Novosti said the number of victims killed 35 people.
"It was a roadside bomb hit a vehicle carrying Pakistani construction workers, killing one of them and injuring six others," said police officer Mohammad Asif told Reuters.
Last week. five employees of Pakistan the same construction company, CITA was shot dead by persons unknown in other parts of Kandahar.
Kandahar is the next target of attack NATO-led forces after the foreign troops and Pakistan to secure a district which is regarded as an important base of action Taliban guerrillas in nearby Helmand province in recent weeks of this.
Before the Taliban government was toppled in a US-led invasion in 2001, Kandahar is a traditional power center and spiritual groups of the Taliban.
No one claimed responsibility for deadly attacks last week or Monday of citizens in Kandahar were Pakistanis.
Most of the Taliban claimed responsibility for attacks against Afghan government, foreign troops and anyone who supports them, but the group rarely targeted Pakistanis.
