Liputan6.com, Hanoi: The Chief of Defense Force members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) held an informal meeting of the seven in the capital of Vietnam, Hanoi, Thursday (25 / 3). This meeting theme is "Improving Efficiency Cooperation between the forces of ASEAN Countries in response to nontraditional security threats".

In his speech, Chief of General Staff of Vietnam People's Army Khắc Nghien Nguyen said that Southeast Asian region face nontraditional security threats, transnational. Including, terrorism, energy and food security, natural disasters and climate change.

This threat, according to Nghien, requires cooperation and coordination is tougher than many countries in the region. Cooperation between ASEAN army played an important role in resolving the challenges and ensuring peace, security and stability.

Nghien further said, to improve the effectiveness of military cooperation, ASEAN countries should increase exchanges of information and experiences. And, continue dialogue on confidence building. In addition, the activities of cooperation in humanitarian assistance and disaster rescue needs to be accelerated. He was optimistic that these activities will help enhance the role and dignity of soldiers ASEAN countries.

Nghien also hopes the meeting will play an important part in enhancing solidarity and cooperation as ASEAN antarmiliter. The seventh meeting of the ASEAN Defense Force chief in Hanoi, is scheduled to end on March 27 next. (RST / ANS / Xinhua)
