30 rebels, 6 soldiers killed in Pakistan

MOSCOW (AFP / RIA-Novosti Oana) - Thirty-six guerrillas and one soldier was killed in Pakistan army operation conducted in the northwestern part of the country, said the Voice of America radio.

Both the army troops and helicopters involved in the operation were reported Saturday, in the Orakzai tribal region, near the Afghan border.

The Pakistani army officer was quoted as saying, they have mastered an important plateau in the vicinity of Bezoti, a guerrilla stronghold in the area.

Six guerrillas were reported arrested and detained in such operasin.

The Pakistani military launched an offensive against Taliban militants in the Orakzai March.

The level of violence surged in the city in 2009, when Taliban insurgents routinely conduct attacks against the occupant of the provincial government, police and civilians.

They also planted homemade bombs in the street as part of their insurgency against U.S. forces and NATO.
