Over 100 Killed, Thousands Homeless As Floods Afghanistan
Kabul (ANTARA News / Reuters) - More than 100 people were killed and thousands of people lost their homes due to massive floods in the past week in Afghanistan.
The government has carried out operations with the help of the UN is involved in rescue work and give the people who survived with the help and shelter, said an official from the disaster management agencies of Afghanistan, Monday.
The region worst hit by the floods are the province of Badghis, Ghor and Herat in western Afghanistan, Mohammad Sediq clear Hassani told Reuters.
"According to initial reports, more than 100 people have been killed, 1865 houses completely destroyed and over 3523 houses partially damaged."
About 10,000 cattle also died due to floods which destroyed thousands of hectares of agricultural land.
Afghanistan's poor and rely on aid, vulnerable to natural disasters such as earthquakes, floods and avalanches.
More rain expected in parts of the country in the coming few days, officials said.
