Veiled women in Mauritania prohibited Visit Prison
Nouakchott (ANTARA News / Xinhua-Oana) - The woman's veil in Mauritania users will no longer be allowed to visit terpidada hardliners in prison, Nouakchott prison authorities announced Friday.
According to authorities, this step is taken to ensure security at the prison, where about 60 members of the hardline group were arrested.
Prohibition was established when members of national guard units were replaced with new members.
Meanwhile, officials in Nouakchott prosecutor reiterated the commitment of law enforcement officials to ensure "a fair trial for all accused of hard-line members" which will take place on May 16.
Members of a hardline group that allegedly has links with Al Qaeda network, who recently clashed with local security forces.
The security forces in February and then shot dead three gunmen and arrested 12 suspects in the northeastern part of the country.
The clashes occurred when neighbors Mauritania and Saharanya facing an increase in drug smuggling, which some observers believe is supported by Al Qaeda north African.
Armed groups that travel in a convoy of land transport vehicles whose members include citizens of Mauritania, Algeria and Mali, according to these sources.
The military sent warplanes to where the clashes and the aircraft was allegedly returned to the capital Noauakchott with transporting the suspects.
The security forces did not say whether the group was involved in drug smuggling or related to the Al Qaeda network, but local media reported that the convoy was transporting drugs.
