Australian Government: "scammer" Use SMS World Cup handful Make Money
Canberra (ANTARA News / Xinhua-Oana) - "scammer" mobile phones will take advantage of the FIFA World Cup to persuade Australians to tell them details of their personal bank account "in exchange for millions of dollars in gifts stealth", the Australian government warned Monday.
Australian Communications and Media Austthority (ACMA) has detected a number of planned fraud (scam) associated with international football matches.
"Such messages typically come in a barrage, and played a special interest in the event that someone as bait," said ACMA chairman Chris Chapman said in a statement.
Three main evil designs of World Cup has been circulated via short messages (SMS).
That message is "Congratulations from Fifa (sic) World Cup Promo Youn won 1,000,000.00 dollars (880.350 U.S. dollars), contact our agent to claim your prize Mr. Fred Samuel Email: (email address)."
Another SMS says "Your mobile number has won 100.000 dollars (880.350 U.S. dollars) and to watch the finals live at the the FIFA WORLD CUP PROMO REF: SA3T10.send email to (email address) or call: (phone number)."
ACMA recommends that SMS recipient ignored such messages and to never give personal details or their bank accounts.
"Even if money was not taken from your account, this information may be useful to steal your identity in the future," said Chapman.
