Gang Allegedly Kills 14 in Attack on El Salvador
San Salvador (AFP / Reuters) - Police in El Salvador Monday arrested seven people suspected gang members accused of burning a bus and killed 14 people, one of the worst attacks against civilians by violent street gangs.
The attackers brandishing their weapons to stop the bus Sunday, when passing a dangerous environment outside of the capital San Salvador.
They shoot the bus, poured gasoline and lit a fire on the passengers scrambled to flee, authorities said.
"We talked about 14 people who burned to death because they can leave the bus floor, according to reports I received," said President Mauricio Funes said in a statement.
"(This is an act) of terrorism and I mentioned it because there is no doubt that the attackers were trying to spread terror to the inhabitants."
The authorities say they are still investigating a motive for murder on Sunday's.
Youth gangs, which largely began in the United States and then spread in El Salvador when the criminal immigrants were deported to their country, creating huge extortion network in the country, asking for payment of bus drivers and shop owners under threat of death.
The branches of the same gang could be found throughout Central America.
