Canada Enact Additional Sanctions Against Iran
Liputan6.com, Ottawa: After the UN Security Council decision, the United States and the European Union to announce additional sanctions targeting Iran's oil industry. Canada is also considering a new set of sanctions against Iran for opposing the west wants in terms of its nuclear program.
Foreign Minister Lawrence Cannon told a news conference in Ottawa on Tuesday (22 / 6) local time said that Canada agreed tindalkan UN Security Council about additional sanctions imposed on Iran earlier this month. Cannon said the announced new sanctions against Iran is very clear that international standards can not be violated without consequence.
Cannon urged Iran to start a constructive dialogue with the five permanent members of UN Security Council and Germany to achieve a diplomatic solution as quickly as possible. Cannon did not say specifically what will be done, but he indicated that in accordance with Security Council resolution, Canada will try to limit Iran's access to uranium, nuclear materials and technologies, both directly and through third parties.
Canada is known as a major producer of uranium which is the main ingredient for nuclear fuel. Cannon adds that the Iranian nuclear issue will surely be a major topic of discussion at the G8 summit which opens in Canada on Friday (25 / 6) to come. (NHK / DES / Job)
