Russian Foreign Minister, UN chief discuss riot Kyrgyzstan
MOSCOW (AFP / RIA-Novosti Oana) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Secretary General of the United Nations (UN), Ban Ki-Moon, to discuss the ongoing ethnic unrest in southern Kyrgyzstan, the Foreign Ministry said Wednesday.
"Russia put forward its concern about civilian casualties and also about the large number of refugees in Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan border," Foreign Ministry statement said.
The statement added that the two leaders' telephone conversation was conducted Tuesday.
Lavrov explained to the chairman of the UN on efforts by Russia and the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) to stabilize the situation in Central Asian countries, according to the ministry.
At least 179 people have been killed in ethnic unrest in southern Kyrgyzstan for five days, between ethnic Kyrgyz and Uzbek.
