Colombian Rebels Kill 12 In Attacks Dawn
Bogota (AFP / Reuters) - Colombia's armed forces have killed 12 left-wing guerrillas, Tuesday, in a dawn raid against rebels in the mountainous region in the northwestern part of the Andean country, said President Alvaro Uribe.
Rebels continue to attack at number four oil producer in Latin America, but violence decreased after the military attack of U.S. support under the Uribe urged the guerrilla group is not legitimate to remote areas in the country.
"Today at 4 o'clock in the morning after a big attack by the intelligence and air forces of Colombia, 12 criminals were killed and six others captured," said Uribe told reporters.
He declared the leader of FARC rebels have sent guerrillas to retake an area between Sucre and Bolivar state, about 580Km from the capital of Colombia, Bogota.
Uribe will be back in August after two powerful tenure marked by hard-line stance against rebels, paramilitary groups and drug kingpin.
That increased security has attracted billions of dollars of foreign investment to Colombia.
President-elect Juan Manuel Santos will take over as president next month and has promised to continue the policy of investment security and pro-Uribe.
