London (ANTARA News / Reuters) - British singer George Michael was arrested after his car crashed into a building in the street in north London at the weekend, police said Tuesday.

Police were deployed to the scene around 3:35 pm local time Sunday (9:35 pm).

"That man, that's 40 years old, was arrested on suspicion of driving unfit," said police spokesman.

Police did not specify the person's name when it issued a statement early, but the spokesman was answering questions about Michael - aged 47 years.

He was taken to a north London police station and released on bail and must return in mid-August while he was undergoing treatment for his wounds.

The star, best known as part daro band Wham! before launching his solo career, which was successful, banned from driving for two years in 2007. He was sentenced to serve the community during 100 hours after it was stated that he was driving under the influence of narcotics.
