Riau-North Sumatra border situation tense, yet Police Arrive

Pekanbaru, (ANTARA) - The conditions in the border province of Riau, North Sumatra (Sumatera) is still tense due to incidents of assault against the village of Batang Kumu in Rokan Hulu, Riau. Residents lamented the police had not yet arrived at the scene of incidents.

"Conditions are still tense, but police had not yet come," said Rod Kumu Village, M Nasir Sihotang, when contacted AFP from Pekanbaru, Saturday night.

Approximately 300 residents who allegedly originated from Padang Lawas, North Sumatra (Sumatera), damaging homes and burned at least 40 District residents Tambussai Kumu Bar, Regency of Rokan Hulu, Riau. Assault happened at about 14:00 pm and lasted until night.

According to Nasir, he had reported this incident to local police exactly to the Police Sector (Police) Daludalu. However, he said, police could not reach the site because of road infrastructure in the area are very poor and difficult to pass when the rainy season.

"Officers from the Police had called me he said roads barely passable. They say the new can come to this place tomorrow (Sunday 25 / 4) morning because it was late," said Nasir.

He said the villagers are now on guard and do ronda night in anticipation of further attacks. Residents also hope the police soon arrive and take firm action against the perpetrators of the attack.

"We will not attack back and hope the police can protect the residents to take firm action against the perpetrators," he said.
