Plane crash in South India, at least 160 killed
New Delhi (ANTARA News / Reuters) - At least 160 people are confirmed dead in a plane crash in southern India and Air India, Saturday morning, several officials said.
The accident occurred when the aircraft is too far beyond the airport runway that serves the city of Mangalore in Karnataka state. Indian television channels said the flight had arrived from Dubai.
"At least 160 passengers died in the accident," said VS Acharya, the interior minister of Karnataka state in southern India, told reporters.
The second official also confirmed that 160 people had died.
The aircraft was carrying 163 passengers and nine crew members. Some officials said earlier that 169 people are on a plane.
"The aircraft was apparently far beyond the runway and crashed the plane. We get the news that the plane burned after the fall," Rohit Kaiyar, an important official airport security, told Reuters.
