Johannesburg - Former U.S. president Bill Clinton Thursday said South Africa has successfully hosted the World Cup and both denied all the criticism and deserve much praise.
"South Africa had his own brand in this World Cup very special way. Many people do not think they can do," Clinton said in Johannesburg, promote travel amid U.S. bid to host the World Cup in 2018 or 2022.
"South Africa is given the opportunity to set the standards and the world can learn from them," he added.
The former president, the U.S. witnessed the 1-0 win over Algeria on Wednesday in Pretoria, and plans to attend the next game, this week's round of 16 against Ghana at large.
He also gave awards to the first black president of the country, Nelson Mandela, during a visit to the winners of the Nobel Foundation.
"I have always visited South Africa Mandela's birthday approached. His birthday has been dedicated to melayanani community," said Clinton.
Mandela's birthday that the 1992 will be commemorated globally on July 18. United Nations established the day as Mandela Day, the day is meant to encourage voluntary activities. (AFP)
