Inter-ethnic clashes in Kyrgyzstan, 23 killed

Liputan6.com, Osh: interethnic clashes in one of the countries of Central Asia, Kyrgyzstan, killing 23 people and more than 300 others injured. Since Thursday (10 / 6), Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan, hundreds of young men fighting in the southern city Osh.

The clashes came amid ethnic tensions in southern Kyrgyzstan, the home of former President Kurmanbek Bakiyev, who recently was toppled in a popular revolt in April last. Kyrgyz citizens are Bakiyev supporters, while the citizens of Uzbekistan is supporting the interim government that was in the opposition bloc.

The bloody clashes make Kyrgyzstan's interim government imposed curfew in Osh, and declared state of national emergency. Similar ethnic conflicts have occurred in the same place 20 years ago. The clashes claimed more than 1,000 people. (AST / ANS / NHK)
