Thousands Want Pain Free Performance
Srinagar, KOMPAS.com - Thousands of protesters flooded the main city of Kashmir, India, on Thursday (07/15/2010) after the government lift restrictions for the first time in five days later.
Muslim populated areas wracked rally since June 11, when security forces accused of killing a 17-year-old girl. Since then, 14 protesters were killed.
When violence erupted, the authorities imposed curfew in parts of the area, arresting activists, and ordered the military to supervise the area of Srinagar.
Kashmir residents who are mostly youths screamed, "We Want Freedom, and God is great". They protested by sitting in several places in Srinagar.
"We're watching the situation closely. If necessary, we can re-impose restrictions on the movement of these people," said police officer, the objections of anonymity, told AFP news agency.
Shops, schools and offices remained closed on the fifth day, Thursday, calls related to these fighters.
Since the late 1980s, the Kashmir insurgency has killed an estimated 47 000 people, including citizens, warriors, and security officials.
