Lebanon Shoot Two Israeli Aircraft
Beirut, KOMPAS.com - Lebanese troops opened fire at two Israeli warplanes violated the country's airspace, Wednesday (26 / 5).
"Anti-aircraft missile fired toward Israeli warplanes flying over the area of Shebaa in southern Lebanon at the height of being," the statement said the Lebanese military.
Two planes fly over Lebanese territories north and south before returning to Israel. Although the Lebanese army issued almost daily reports about Israeli violations of Lebanese airspace, forces are almost never fired a shot except when the aircraft was flying within range of the Lebanese army.
The flight was a violation of the UN Security Council Resolution 1701, which ended the war destroyed the year 2006 between Israel and Lebanon's Shiite Hezbollah fighters. Israel insisted that the flight was necessary to monitor what they called a massive arms smuggling by Hezbollah.
Last month, Israeli President Shimon Peres accused the Syrian SCUD missile supplies to Hezbollah, which Israel was accused of storing more than 40,000 rockets, some of which are capable of reaching major cities in Israel. Damascus rejected the accusations, while Hezbollah which controls southern Lebanon does not confirm or deny it.
