5 People Killed In Attack in Algeria

Algiers (AFP / Reuters) - A man who allegedly hard-line Muslim guerrillas killed five people at a wedding party in eastern Algeria, the official APS news agency reported Friday.

The attack happened Thursday night in the village in the province Tébessa Ghrab, near the border with Tunisia, APS said, citing a security source.

Authorities could not be contacted to give an explanation about it.

The conflict between security forces and hardline Muslim guerrillas reached a peak in the 1990s after the government annulled the elections which were won an Islamist party.

Violence diminished since then, but still carried out attacks against civilians, government forces and foreign nationals, whose responsibility was claimed by Al-Qaeda wing of North Africa.
