Suicide bombing of Kabul rattles

KABUL, KOMPAS.com - A suspected suicide bomber blew himself up and explosive devices near the Afghan foreign ministry, Saturday (26 / 6). Not immediately known whether there are casualties in the attack.

"We're still trying to find out the cause and secure the surrounding area," said a police officer. According to some witnesses told AFP, a large explosion occurred at the time of the visit of a senior United States military, who come to the meetings that explain the sacking of the commander of U.S. foreign forces in the country.

The explosion occurred in downtown at 9:55 pm local time. An interior ministry spokesman, Zemarai Bashery, said he heard the explosion, which was immediately investigated the cause. "Apparently it happened near the foreign ministry," he said.

The explosion occurred when the United States admiral Mike Mullen, the U.S. joint chief of staff, arrived in Kabul, Friday night, for a mission to convince the leaders of Afghanistan, following the dismissal of top U.S. commanders in Kabul. Mullen is scheduled to meet with President of Afghanistan, Hamid Karzai, after General Stanley McChrystal of the U.S. fired for insubordination.

The explosion, if properly carried out guerrillas associated with the Taliban, will be the first attack in Kabul since the peace conference on June 2.
