YOGYAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - PT PLN Distribution Central Java and Yogyakarta have been providing new services since late last year in the form of prepaid electricity payment services. By purchasing a voucher ranging from Rp 20,000, customers can better control the use of electricity in each household.

According to General Manager of PT PLN Distribution Central Java and Yogyakarta Fery Krisna, the institute targets prepay 150 000 electric customers this year. Until now, the target has been realized 40 000 subscribers. "Targeted to the front of all customers could switch to prepay," said Ferry, Thursday (06/03/2010).

Head of Customer Service and Distribution Division of the Java-Bali Haryanto added, prepaid electricity use tends to be more energy efficient because the consumer can monitor the cost of electricity. "From personal experience, the decline in electricity bills could be 20 percent compared with postpaid electricity," added Haryanto.

To accelerate the migration of customers, prepaid electricity payment rates for households with electrical power less than 1300 confirmed about 10 percent cheaper than electricity postpaid. So far, the mass socialization of prepaid electricity is still hampered the readiness of the plant to provide prepaid meter technology in bulk.

Manager of PT PLN Distribution Central Java and Yogyakarta Yogyakarta Area Network Services and Furqan Tanzala added, there are about 2,000 customers had prepaid electricity in the whole DIY. Taman Pintar Yogyakarta became a pilot project for this prepaid electric service. "Customers can manage their own electricity usage so frugal," he said.
