All Uzbek Refugees Leave Kyrgyzstan
Tashkent (AFP / Ria Novosti-Oana) - Almost all people who fled to Uzbekistan during the ethnic unrest in southern Kyrgyzstan have returned to their homes, said a spokesman for the Foreign Ministry of Uzbekistan.
According to various international organizations, about 400,000 people displaced as a result of alleged deadly ethnic clashes in mid-June, while about 110,000 cross the border with Uzbekistan.
"Now, all that affected by the tragic events in southern Kyrgyzstan have been repatriated to their country, they need maximum assistance," the source said.
The report was confirmed by the High Commission of the United Nations (UN) for refugees, Antonio Guterres, who visited Andijan province on the border with Kyrgyzstan on Wednesday.
Uzbekistan's foreign ministry is now handling the remaining parts of the international humanitarian aid worth 2.5 million dollars to Kyrgyzstan, said a spokesman.
Clashes between ethnic Kyrgyz and Uzbekistan, which comprised approximately 15 percent of the population of Kyrgyzstan, has erupted in the southern city of Osh Kytgyzstan on June 11, and ended several days and up to Jalalabad menyear neighbors.
According to the unofficial calculations victims reached about 2000 people.
