Australia New Zealand Reject Request
Liputan6.com, Wellington: New Zealand Australia rejected the proposal to share a single joint force to train the Afghan army. This is because it can be an unacceptable risk, said Prime Minister of New Zealand John Key. "I think it would pose a risk to our soldiers ... I think it is dangerous that we do not want to happen," said Key, Thursday (1 / 7).
In Afghanistan, New Zealand has one provincial reconstruction team comprises around 140 personnel in Bamyan Province and 71 personnel of the army's elite Special Air Service (SAS) who served in the state that was ravaged by war.
Key said the former Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd has to reach him years ago about the combination to train a contingent of Afghan soldiers in southern Uruzgan province, and he eventually rejected the proposal about six weeks ago. (ASW / Job)
