Toshiba LCD plant in Singapore Sale

TOKYO, KOMPAS.com - Japanese electronics manufacturer, Toshiba Corp., plans to sell factories criystal panel liquid display (LCD) that his property was in Singapore to Au Optronics Corp., producer of TV panels from Taiwan. Toshiba was forced to take steps to cover the losses in LCD manufacturing business.

In recent years, Toshiba had suffered losses in the LCD business because it keeps the product price has dropped dramatically. In fact, management estimates that Toshiba, Toshiba's LCD business will post an operating loss amounting to 28 billion yen for the financial year which ended Wednesday (31/3/2010). That is why, Toshiba will sell the LCD factory in Singapore.

LCD factory that specially produce panels for laptops and is the only Toshiba's LCD panel production base overseas. Unfortunately, Toshiba's management was reluctant to reveal details about the deal. However, the news circulated to mention, the deal value reached 10 billion yen, or about 108 million U.S. dollars.

Parties Optronics, which supplies television panels to Sony and Sharp, Toshiba agreed to buy a LCD factory. "With a factory that has the talent and technology, our competence in the market displays a high level, in the future will be even stronger," said President Chen LJ Optronics.
