Kewell Immediately Restored To Laga Opener
Melbourne (ANTARA News / Reuters) - Australia winger Harry Kewell was on track to soon recover from a groin injury in time to face the German team in the opening match of World Cup in South Africa next month.
Former Leeds United player and Liverpool forward last week included in the team while Pim Verbeek. But the 31-year-old player was still struggling to recover from the injury he got while fighting to defend the Turkish club Galatasaray.
"I've done all the things right. No one was going backwards. We work on schedule and on the right track," he told the Australian Associated Press (AAP), Monday.
"It's important for me (to recover 100 percent) ... not just for myself but also the team," he added.
"If you can not 100 percent recovered, meaning I let myself, the team and my country down," he said.
Kewell, who may be asked to forward against the German team in Durban on June 13 is almost certainly not able to follow this week's warm-up match against New Zealand.
Australia will face Serbia and Ghana in Group D first round of the World Cup to be held June 11 until July 11.
