This afternoon Rupiah Weakens

Liputan6.com, Jakarta: The rupiah in the Jakarta interbank spot currency market, Monday (17 / 5) afternoon, weakened to above 9100 per U.S. dollar. Especially, when many market participants remove currencies followed the dollar strengthening in the regional market. Amount transacted in the range of 9.125/9.135 per dollar, weakened the position of 35 points from last weekend close of 9.090/9.100.

Foreign exchange analyst with PT Valbury Asia Securities, Krisna Dwi Setiawan, estimated amount will still be depressed because of foreign players are still worried due to the slow aid to Greece who are experiencing financial crisis. "Foreign Performer is currently focusing on a grant from the European Union's financial institution that is considered slow and it is feared that the crisis will continue to other countries," he said.

Although the rupiah depressed, he added, his position is still considered safe because it is above 9100 per dollar figure that makes business people can conduct their activities. "We expect this position throughout the weekend are still in a narrow range between 9100 to 9150 per dollar," he said.

Rupiah, according to Krishna, is still likely to rise again. Therefore, foreign players are still active are in the market, they are waiting for an opportunity to re-buy the rupiah which is currently depressed. "We'll be back to buy rupiah to buy it if the opportunity is there, supported by improvement in the external market," he said.

Krishna further said rupiah's current position is ideal, but the rise and fall of the currency is hanging by the issues arising in the market. It's just that amount is not expected to be far away from that range. Moreover, Indonesia is still considered to be potential markets for better profits. (ANS / Ant)
