RI-Australia Cooperation Develop Aquaculture Tuna

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (NOA) in collaboration with Australia to develop tuna farming in the Balinese.

"Australia is providing 10 million U.S. dollars for development of tuna farming, including increased offshore` `tuna farming in Indonesia," said Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, Fadel Muhammad, after the Indonesian Maritime Council meeting with Commission IV of the national parliament in Jakarta, Tuesday.

Location own tuna aquaculture development, according to him, to continue from existing in Bali.

Meanwhile, Australia provided funding, he said also intended for marine research activities in Indonesia.

According to him, there are other ideas to make use of about 360 former "oil rig" in Indonesian waters.

"Actually a good idea to use the rig in the cultivation of marine or offshore ports, but still needed to examine the possibilities," says Fadel.

He said he would hold talks related to the possibility of using ex-rig for the aquaculture.

"The cost to dismantle the rig was large, equal to the cost of manufacture. I will tell him also the possibility of using this rig for fishing to the President," says Fadel.
