Owner Fined For Commenting Cavaliers Lebron James
New York (ANTARA News / Reuters) - The owner of Gilbert's Cleveland Cavaliers and was fined $ 100,000 for scathing letters in which he called the decision LeBron James to play for the Miami Heat are "cowardly behavior," the NBA said Monday.
Gilbert issued a comment in a letter dated July 8 to the team's supporters not long after winning twice in "Most Valuable Player" (best player), the NBA said he would leave Cleveland to play with fellow "All Stars" Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh.
James, who became the most expensive player contracts free this year, made the announcement in a special live broadcast for one hour on national television.
Not long after that, Gilbert issued a strongly worded letter to the team's supporters and told them, "simply did not deserve such a cowardly betrayal."
Gilbert also said the decision to James, who became the first choice overall by Cleveland in the 2003 draft, is "to show the selfishness and shameful betrayal."
