SAMARINDA, KOMPAS.com - Provincial Narcotics Agency (BNP) in East Kalimantan estimates, the number of drug addicts in the province's population of about 3.1 million will reach 62 000 inhabitants in 2013.
"We're projecting, Kaltim Drug addicts in 2013 reached 62 000 people if there is no regular and comprehensive treatment involving all kompenen community," said Chief Executive of BNP Kaltim, Patience Sinaga, in Samarinda, Friday.
Based on data from the National Narcotics Agency (BNN), East Kalimantan province ranked fourth drug abuse throughout Indonesia and is currently 1.9 per cent or more of 45 thousand citizens of East Kalimantan using drugs. The data also shows, drug users from the group of students reached 27 000 inhabitants.
"So, if it is not anticipated, then the projection of drug addicts in 2013 it jumped to 62 000 inhabitants," said Patience.
Most drug abuse carried out by groups of private sector employees, including unemployment. "Kind of the most widely consumed drug addicts in East Kalimantan which is sabu-sabu," he said.
Kaltim BNP has made various efforts to combat the illicit circulation of goods, such as school programs, families, communities and the environment. "However, our efforts will not succeed without community support," he said.
